The Secret to Raising Intuitive Eaters

May 02, 2022

What does your parenting approach look like?

Do you do things differently from the way you were raised? Or are you emulating your own parents?

One area I see parents doing things very differently is with eating.

My daughter and her partner are taking a really different approach to meals with their 3 kids - kind of the opposite of what we had in our home growing up. They serve dessert with the meal instead of after, and they don’t insist on “just one bite” of anything.

There’s so much research contributing to these changing trends and habits around food and children - and in today’s podcast episode, I discuss it all with Dani Lebovitz, a pediatric registered dietician.

Here are the top 3 things I learned from our conversation:

  1. Before they can eat solids, babies are exposed to all the common foods your family eats through amniotic fluid, breast milk, and scents in the home.
  2. You can just skip pureed foods altogether. 😉
  3. We need to avoid labeling foods good/bad, healthy/unhealthy, etc. to help children feel good about what they eat.
